Repeated hand washing or working with harsh substances can remove the skin’s protective lipids (oils) allowing the skin to dry out and become cracked and damaged. Epi-shield unique scientific formula is designed to protect and shield the skin from this damage.

Epi-shield is a water based barrier cream that provides a triple action for the protection of the skin.

Epi-Shield's Unique Triple Action

1. Moisturises

Epi-shield contains emollients or moisturisers including propylene glycol, ceryl and oleyl acetate that moisturise your skin keeping it soft and supple.

2. Protects

Epi-shield contains dimethicone which creates a fine barrier on your hands which helps protect them against the effects of water and other harsh substances that may cause irritation.

3. Prevents

Epi-shield contains Triclosan which helps inhibit the growth of transient bacteria including MRSA thus helping prevent the spread of infection. *(Ref. 2)

Epi-shield is especially suited to provide protection to workers in the health care setting for the following reasons:

•	Epi-shield has been shown to be compatible with Chlorohexidene (Hibiscrub). *(Ref 5) Barrier creams that are ionic, especially anionic, i.e. creams containing substances such as sodium lauryl sulphate, are incompatible with hibiscrub and should not be used.
•	Epi-shield has been proven not to interfere with the integrity of latex gloves. Many oil-based creams and lotions destroy latex glove integrity, and can cause the release of allergenic latex proteins. *(Ref 6,9)
•	Epi-shield contains triclosan which helps protect the skin against Staphylococcus Aureus including MRSA and hence the production of super antigens. *(Ref 5,8)
•	Contains dimethicone an effective barrier practically insoluble in water.
•	Contains emollient and moisturising agents.

•	Acceptability. Epi-shield has been shown to be cosmetically acceptable and soothing in over 90% of health care workers.
